Jaime B. – on mission in Italy

Hello, my name is Jaime. I was born in Mexico, but since 2010 I grew up in the United States, where I studied and graduated university. My desire for going on mission comes as a result of two other desires that I have had from my youth, the desire to be a superhero and the desire to serve God. As I grew older and as I learned about my faith, and that superheroes from the movies don’t really exist, I started seeing missionaries as the Christian version of real superheroes. They sacrifice themselves for the good of another, they are not afraid to be different, and they stand for justice and truth.
In the summer of 2017, I did a one-month mission with Christ in the City in Denver Colorado. There I learned about the beauty of the ministry of presence, the beauty of just being there for the other person, maybe not with much materially, but with the joy and love that God brings into the lives of those who trust in him. After that mission, my desire for service grew stronger. I found Con-solatio through the Catholic Volunteer Network, and after doing a come-and-see weekend with them, I knew from their joy and love that this was the group I had to do mission with.
I have done a mission in Uruguay for 19 months, and I continue in Italy for some more time. God has totally transformed my gaze on life through this experience and I am excited to see how He keeps working for me and through me. Thank you for your support.
