Hi, my name is Janie and I’m from St. Mary’s County in Southern Maryland. I just graduated from Franciscan University with a degree in Theology. I always had a desire to do mission work but never found an organization that I seemed called to. I became Catholic in 2019 when I was a junior in high school and ever since then consoling Jesus with Mary at the foot of the cross has been really important to me.
Noelle, another one of our missionaries about to be sent out to Honduras, is the one who first told me about Con-solatio. I thought it sounded awesome but didn’t do anything about it right away because it scared me to have to learn a new language and go somewhere totally unknown. But then I met Natalia and Mara at a mission fair and my heart burned for what they had to say about it. A couple weeks later I went on the discernment retreat in Brooklyn and this desire only became more solidified through visiting our friends in the neighborhood. Just a week later I gave my yes to mission because never had I found something that lined up so much with my spirituality and prayer for the last four years.
I want to be transformed during these fourteen months in Senegal! I want to learn how to be the light of the resurrection for others as Mary was for Jesus in his agony on the cross. I am praying for all my sponsors every day. Thank you for your help to make this mission possible.
