Maria H. – on mission in Honduras

Greetings! My name is Maria and I am from Canton, North Carolina. I am one of 9 kids with 6 brothers and 2 sisters! I was homeschooled and graduated in the wonderful year of 2020 without the desire to go to college. So, what was I going to do if I didn’t go to college right away?

Well, when I was 17 talking to my mom in a car ride home (it’s the little moments in life), I had an amazing encounter through our conversation that would change the course of my life. I felt God personally calling me to live a missionary life in glory of His name, to deepen my personal relationship with Him and to serve the people He so desperately loves! After graduation, I set out in pursuit to fulfill this calling. I ran into many ups, downs, setbacks, and cancelations that led me to question if this is what God really wanted of me. God, however, is always faithful and provides far more than we ever expect! Because on a random day, searching through mission groups my heart finally rested in the arms of Con-solatio.

Everything about Con-solatio’s mission spoke beautifully to the desires of my heart. The radical prayer life centered on the Eucharist, living a simple community lifestyle in the city slums, and the charism of silently suffering with all we meet drew me to this mission. Before I knew it, I had gone to the Brooklyn mission house, was accepted into their missionary program and committed to a 16-month adventure with Christ in Tegucigalpa, Honduras!

I am humbled by this opportunity to be a vessel of God’s love, knowing that it is God who is going to His people in Honduras, but He so graciously wants to bring me along. The beautiful truth is that Christ actually wants to bring everyone on His mission! You can go on Christ’s mission simply by supporting me financially, spiritually or both because this mission isn’t possible by my own power. I need your help! By becoming a spiritual and/or financial supporter of my mission, you are united to the people of Honduras. I would not be able to take this leap of faith without your prayers and support. Thank you for considering taking this leap of faith with me. God’s blessings and Mary’s constant care be with you!
