Accept the Simple Things

By Sarah A., on mission in Costa Rica

My community sister and I went to visit a woman and her four children. I had visited this family before, but this particular visit stood out to me. Most of this woman’s children have mental disabilities. The oldest child is in school and from what I can understand is doing quite well! For the two middle children, it is a bit harder, simply because of how severe their disability is. When I go to visit them, they are always a breath of fresh air for me. I find that I can be at ease with them because they just want to play, or they want a high five or a hug. All of these things I can give so easily to them. They are always so happy when we come to visit them, and I always leave their presence feeling so much lighter. By just being me, Christ brings so much joy into their lives. I always feel Jesus asking me to let go of my pride and accept the simple things when I am with them. I do not need to act in any special way, they just want to feel that I love them and want to spend time with them.
