An Inspiring Evening

By Robert K., benefactor

Normally, I dread events like galas and fundraisers. But I have come to expect a pleasant surprise upon meeting up with the Con-solatio crew under any circumstances. There is always great dignity, purpose and grace in the air when we meet, and somehow this opens up possibilities I did not see.

During the evening, stories were told of hardships and suffering, particularly in the Philippines. Hearing this, Con-solatio’s purpose, which is a subtle and complex thing, becomes ever more clear. They not only witness, but engage in these dire situations, by setting an example and with unconditional support, effecting what changes they can but, notably, without manipulation and control.

The honoree’s speech and work was also very inspiring. The evening was deeply joyful, especially the spontaneous ethnic dancing. There is an optimism in the Con-solatio project which is totally unforced and very courageous. I try to repurpose this every day, taking my own best shot at gratitude and quiet faith. And so here I am today, with my small concerns, inspired by them, and trying to do better.
