Especially in the Small Things
Tim is on mission in Ecuador.
Before I came to Ecuador, I pictured the work of a missionary to be nothing like life back at home. In my head, I thought the missionary is constantly doing these grand works of love, similar to what Jesus did in the Gospels. Although it is true that the lifestyle here is different than back home, I find myself rather entering into a lifestyle of very simple and little acts of love.
Rather than healing the possessed man, I find myself many times washing dishes. Rather than saving the life of St. Mary Magdalene, I find myself playing soccer with the kids. Rather than seeing Jesus transfigured on the mountain, I watch Him silent in the chapel during Adoration. I’m not called to see my mission only in the really powerful and emotional moments. I’m called to see it at all times, especially in the small things. God uses even our smallest acts of love to accomplish His plan.
