“I Too Want To Go And Love.”
By Sofia S. – Testimonial Coordinator
Late this September, I had a full week of testimonials in the beautiful, green state of Michigan. As I prepared the talks and organized when, how, and where I would go, a friend reminded me that while outreach technically means sharing with the hope of inspiring someone to follow God’s call on mission, in the end, it’s simply about going and loving.
As I stood in front of groups of high school juniors and seniors—some too shy to ask questions, others more eager—I spoke about the friendships and mission that changed my life. I couldn’t help but notice their wide eyes, filled with curiosity and awe. It was clear that they were listening, perhaps even feeling awakened.
Afterward, teachers approached me, sharing how much the students enjoyed the presentation. Some returned to class saying, “I didn’t know something like this existed. I didn’t know I could be a volunteer like that. I think I could go on a mission.”
I don’t know if any of these students will eventually go on a mission, but outreach extends far beyond recruitment. Sharing this mission brings hope, and even the shy, awkward, or “too cool” high schoolers are saying, “I, too, want to go and love.”
