Like a Child

By Tim, on mission in Ecuador

Although I have witnessed many saddening things in the lives of the children, I have also seen much beauty and life. Sometimes this has entered into my soul and brought life back into it. Many of these encounters are small, little things.

One time I was playing in our house with my little friend Darwin, and at one point we started reading a bible book for children. I was trying to describe to him the stories, such as Lazarus being raised from the dead, the Last Supper, etc. Suddenly out of nowhere Darwin shouted, “Timoteo! Be quiet! I’m going to pray…” and with hands folded and eyes looking very concentrated, he said, “Lord Jesus, don’t be mad with me. I’m your son too (He said a few other things but I can only remember these two phrases).” A few minutes later, we were playing with some of the other toys and out of nowhere he told me very seriously, “Timoteo! If you tell us to leave, you will be in TROUBLE!… Just kidding!”

Every day, little moments like this happen that bring joy and teach me to be like a child. I think the kids have also taught me that by simply being ourselves and living, we bring glory to God. Our bodies are proof of God’s greatness and give glory to Him in everything.
