Little Seeds of Love

By Selen, on mission in El Salvador

When I was still in the States, I was thinking what am I going to do to make a difference? Then, as time passed and little by little discovering the reality, I understood that we are here, to touch the hearts of many, that they may follow a path that, although with obstacles, leads to a life that is lived in truth and real love.

When we go out into the streets and look for children to invite to play, it is an opportunity for them to realize how worthy they are by the way we treat them; with respect and much patience.

Irene is a 6 years-old girl in our neighborhood. She lives with her grandma, two siblings, and an uncle. Her dad is not present in her life and her mom was banished from the neighborhood by the gangs. Irene spends most of her time in the street with other children and she is infamous in all the neighborhood as a very misbehaving child. Many times, in the past I had invited her to come to play with us on Saturdays. But she had always refused. Her barrier for friendship with me was broken when one day I defended her against the complaints of other children while we were in a conversation. On that day, she hugged me a few times and very enthusiastically said that she was going to go to school the next day. From that time on, our friendship with Irene improved and she came to play with us a couple times. Getting to know her and her family, little seeds of love are being sawn in her little heart.
